803 words; about a 4 minute read
Mission:
Thought & Memory
Location: Mess hall
Joanna woke up in a cold sweat. Not sure if it was all a dream or if it was a psychic thing but something destroyed her sleep that night. She had gotten used to the dreams and the nightmares that went with her job. She could almost deal with the death's of her pilots from the battles they fought, but THIS was way different. She felt like someone had entered her mind and was trying to tell her something and it scared the shit out of her. She was going to make it a point to see the doctor but after she spoke to Lt. Kerr. Tapping her combadge, "Lt. Kerr, Cmdr. Jackson here, sorry if I woke you but I need to speak with you asap", she said slightly nervous. Putting on her boots, she was half way dressed when Lt. Kerr responded.
In his quarters, Finchley was jerked awake by the sound of his COMM badge chirruping. After the message came through, he tapped his badge and replied "Kerr here Commander, that's ok, I'll meet you in the mess hall in ten minutes, out."
Shaking himself awake, and rubbing his hand back and forth over his face and hair, he then got up, dressed in his uniform and made his way out of his quarters. Within a few minutes he was in the mess hall and looked around for Commander Jackson.
Joanna quickly walked into the mess hall walking over to Lt. Kerr. "Lt. Kerr, thankyou for meeting me. I know it is a crazy hour but we have to discuss something that.....oh I am not making much sense am I", she said, sitting down at the table.
Finchley walked over to the table, and asked "May I?" indicating to the seat opposite Joanna
Realizing that the lieutenant was indicating the chair, "Oh....please by all means sit. This nightmare has me rattled", she said.
"Thank you. Perhaps if you start from the beginning Commander, it may help me to understand what it is you're looking for?" he answered as he sat down.
"I guess maybe......look Lt. Kerr, am not crazy but something entered my mind and scared the shit out of me", she said clearly disheveled. "I have been flying a long time and have had many pilots die and I have always dealt with it and the night mares that go with it. However this one was different. Someone or something entered my mind and caused me to remember one mission where I nearly lost my entire squadron and the flight deck. It was investigated and found it was sabotage. Eventually they found who it was and I clearly heard when he said to watch my back. About 6 months later he was killed and I thought that was the end of it. Earlier this evening I got a case of deja veu and then waking up in a cold sweat terrified. I would request security posted in the fighter bay. For whatever reason this what ever it was....has me think something might happen and it is something I don't need now", Joanne toned. She didn't want what happened on the Arlington to happen here. It was not made public for fear the Syndicate would create problems in the investigation since it was two of their people.
"I would never say anyone's crazy if they have such a conviction, as you have Commander, that something or someone was in your mind" Finchley replied "and I'll inform the Captain in regards to placing Security in and around the fighter bay, as well as posting a guard outside your quarters. Tell me Commander, who was it that had caused the sabotage, and how did they die?" he asked.
"The Arlington was tasked with a mission by SFI and not many of us knew what the orders were but I was one of six who were told. Apparently the Syndicate joined up with a rogue faction comprimised of Ullians to infiltrate Starfleet's Embassadorial Convention on SB 512. It was the Arlington's job to provide security both on the station and in the air while the convention was going on. There were three Ullian agents, Jocktul, Mordu, and the main man Rugnar. Rugnar was like the most powerful in mind rape and was also like a Tam Elbran type. He could talk telepathically over great distances. Anyhow.......", she got cut off by the sound of one word, Scramble! "Lt. Kerr, got to go....we can finish this when I come back. Right now I got fighters to scramble", Joanna said and took off at a dead run.
"Absolutely Commander, just let me know when's most convenient when you come back" Finchley called after Joanna.
