Mission: Thought & Memory

=/\= Begin Log =/\=

Captain Mallory Thorne had to remind herself to act like an adult who was experienced and mature enough to have been given the command of a new, fully-tactical vessel ready to defend the borders of the Federation...

...when all she felt inside was giddy, near-adolescent excitement.

The USS Odin was officially and finally ready to go. It didn't matter, of course, that she hadn't really been on board and in command long enough to call it "finally," but she was going to anyway. Time was a variable often enough, it seemed, so a few days could seem like much longer, right?

"All department heads have reported in and are ready to depart," reported Commander T'lvaris, her Vulcan first officer who had reported on board yesterday after her transport had met multiple delays. Mal wasn't entirely sure how well she, being a bit of an emotional human, would get along with a Vulcan XO, but...time would tell.

There was that "time" thing again.

"Open a channel to Providence Station and request permission to depart," Mal ordered, sounding totally professional and not enthusiastic at all.

Good job, Mal.

"Odin, this is Providence Station," returned a placid male voice. "You are cleared to depart. You are second in line in the lanes behind the merchant vessel De Winter."

"Acknowledged, Providence Station."

"Godspeed, Odin."

Of course, knowing the history of her ship's name, the use of the standard "Godspeed" couldn't help but amuse her.

She looked down at the helm console and the woman manning it. "Lieutenant Beryl," she said, "set a course for the space lane to departure station's near-space."

"Course plotted, sir," Beryl replied.

"Engage."

Mal settled back in her chair to enjoy the feeling of the ship's movement as it made its way away from the station. She waited until they had cleared it and settled into their route before opening a ship-wide channel.

"The ship is currently underway and beginning our patrol of the Azurean Corridor. All departments, you know your jobs. I want you all running readiness drills and the wing running simulations. Let's all be as ready as we can be and as in sync with our new shipmates as possible. Thorne out."

OOC: Alright, y'all have a few days up to a week to log about our departure, settling in, and run some drills. Get to know your shipmates and all that. I'll log again with some the next part of the plot at that time. If you want a joint log, let me know!
