Mission:
Tyr's Hand
Location: Remy Cate's Office
The computer wasn't cooperating and even if it was so inclined, the rolling power outages made getting any sort of work done more than a little challenging. And if that weren't enough, it was the collective opinion of both the science department and a tart sounding ensign in Engineering that Science's priority was not a top priority at the moment.
Remy understood but then again, she didn't. Equations and algorithms were forming in her mind and she needed to work ... but where and how. And so, in a darkened lab, set in a ring of makeshift light sources, they discussed the issue, because as scientists they all had lots to say, and came up with an agenda. Course being the Chief, that meant she had to take on the whole talking-to-command part because none of them would go Rochambeau for it.
The idea was to clear out a space in the labs and put up old fashioned chalk boards; that could be replicated with little effort. She would work on the math and someone would go behind her, transferring it to the computer when and if it started to cooperate again. That she wanted to get to as soon as possible but first, she had to speak to that XO stand in about probes. If it were possible, Science wanted to place probes in high orbit to gather as much data as possible. The probes could set, by Science, to gather and hold the data and then be retrieved later.
If they had to, they would strap on suits and hang out the door.
With a course of action decided upon, refreshments were served by a couple of lab techs because scientists had been doing that since back in the days of Bunsen burners. It was fun, sometimes challenging ... and ... why not? They sat on the floor, leaning back against tables, and shared stories while they drank tea out of beakers and ate the appetizers after lengthy explanations. Not that anyone was squeamish, far from it. It was more along the lines of how did you do it. Something wasn't real until it could be dependably produced.
In all, things weren't so bad.
Course, it would have been better it they had been willing to go Rochambeau on talking to the XO stand-in.
