507 words; about a 3 minute read

Mission: The Quagmire
Timeline: OOC: Takes place during the Kansas log.

As she left her assistant to his own devices for now, Indi took the time to look around. Everybody indeed seemed to be pretty alright, but that still didn't mean everyone was accounted for. Looking over everyone she could see, she spotted the CO a way's away. It was pretty much on the other side of the room, which was probably why she hadn't seen her before. Weaving her way through the people, she came to a halt close to the woman. "Are you alright, Captain?"

When she heard someone speaking to her, Mallory turned to see...Commander Hawk. "I'm alright as I can be, under the circumstances," she said. Mal frowned, still thinking about everything going on and all the mysteries around them. "How about yourself, Commander? Are you alright?"

"Yeah, yeah, I'm fine," Indi waved her hand dismissively. "As are most of the people I've seen so far. Some have suffered minor injuries, but nothing bad. I'd ask if you know where we are, but it would be a stupid question. None of this makes sense."

"No... No, it doesn't," the captain had to agree. She rubbed the back of her neck. She didn't think she had any injuries herself, although she was a little sore. It made her wonder just how long she'd been unconscious. "What do you recall, Commander? Before this."

Indi shook her head. "Just about the same as everybody I've talked to, Captain. We were going about our business, all around the ship, and woke up here. Personally, I was in my office monitoring the Red Alert situation to redirect my teams."

This...cave or room was somewhat dim, so Mallory knew there were parts she couldn't see, but she had a vague awareness of the number of people that were likely to be in here right now. "How many people do you think are in here right now?" she asked distantly. "Can't be more than...fifty, I'd say. The room doesn't seem to be big enough for more." Fifty in here meant only a sixth of the crew.

"I'd come to about the same number," Indi nodded in agreement. She'd done somewhat of a headcount on her brief walk over to the CO, and 50-some people sounded close enough. "They appear to be from all departments and from all over the ship though, so not rank, position or location based."

"Agreed," Mal said with a nod of her own. "Although it seems that the senior staff is all among us."

Indi repeated the nodding motion. "If anyone wanted to divide us with a tactical reason, they didn't make the best choice. But then, what were their reasons?"

Mallory sighed and rubbed her hands over her face. "If this was a 'they' at all. I don't suppose there's really much of a likelihood of it being a non-intelligent force, though. With ending up like this."

"Until convinced otherwise, I'm going to assume somebody's behind this. And the sooner we can find out who it is, the better," Indi shrugged.
