Location: Ready Room

The only constant in the universe is change.

It was time for a few more of those to come about on the USS Odin, it would seem, and Mallory was tackling things head-on today to frankly just get everything over with. She wanted to enjoy a little of her own downtime and get off the ship, but duty came first. Like usual.

"Thorne to Lieutenant Sabine. Please join me in the ready room at your earliest convenience."

"Oh, yes of course, captain I'll be there in a few," Madalene said as she finished up the project she was working on, and passed it off to her replacement, before heading to the ready room. Hitting the chime she stepped back to await the all too important detail of invitation.

"Enter," Mal called, looking up to see Sabine walking in. The captain smiled politely and waved the other woman in. "Thanks for coming so quickly. Have a seat. Can I get you something to drink?" Mal was already moving toward the replicator for her own second cup of coffee.

"Coffee please," Madalene said taking a seat, looking around onerously not sure why she was called in.

With two cups of coffee in hand, she gave one to Sabine and sat down in the chair next to her rather than returning around behind her desk. Mal sipped her coffee and then continued, "I read in your personnel file that you have experience in science as well as operations?"

"Um, yes," Madalene said as she took a sip of her coffee, "my career path could have gone science, truth be told I am not 100% sure why I chose operations over science, may I ask why this is coming up now?"

"Unfortunately," Mal continued heavily, "we have crew member who is not recovering from the unconscious state following the incident." That was really the only way she could bring herself to describe it. "That's the chief of science, and right now, we don't really have anyone qualified to cover the department. You, however, have the schooling and department head experience, while we have ops officer capable of stepping up in a way the science department presently lacks. I would like you to take over that role."

Madalene looked shocked, "oh! I am sorry, I was unaware that any of the crew suffered those kind of injuries, I hope she get's better, um but yes, of course I can step up and run the department," Madalene said with a small smile but also feeling like that Rabbit could handle operations just fine.

Mal nodded and smiled slightly. "Lieutenant Deschamps is receiving the best of care, and in the meantime, I'm sure she'd be glad that someone is able and willing to step in and cover the department."

Madalene nodded, "that is good to hear," she added looking at the captain, "...I'll spend the next few days familiarizing myself with the department," Madalene said simply.

"Very good," Mal agreed. She leaned forward and riffled through a couple of PADDs on her desk before finding the one she wanted, which she turned to hand to Sabine. "This is a roster of your new department. The Odin's science complement is very small, as you'll see, but there is a small list of officers in other departments that can work a crossover if they are needed and available."

Madalene took the PaDD, and looked over it the captain was right, it was a small group, but luckily a ship like this allowed for a lot of crossover, "well I guess should head down to science and introduce myself," Madalene said with a chuckle.

The captain smiled. "I'm sure you'll do just fine, Lieutenant. Good luck. And if you have any issues, don't hesitate to come to the commander or I."

"Thank you captain," Madalene said as she stood and headed for the exit.
