Amelia made her rounds that morning, checking on the few remaining coma patients they had. Optimistically, that number was going down. After that, she gathered her reports from her shift and headed to the office of the chief. The door was open, so she knocked on the door frame. "Have a moment, Doctor Dering?" the deputy chief asked with a smile.

Reclined back with his feet propped up on the usual corner of his desk, Cole had been staring at the monitor screen looking over his schedule for the day when he heard the knock. He raised an eyebrow and then took his feet off the desk, knocking off a datapad in the process, as he smiled back to her, "Oh yeah, come on in," and gestured to an empty chair.

"Thanks," Amelia said, chuckling at the doc's feet. "Sorry to disturb you, but I wanted to go over the reports." She held up the PADDs in her hand.

"Ah..." he replied, reaching down for the datapad that had fallen, glancing up to her as he stretched, "No problem...uh, go ahead."

Amelia smiled patiently, waiting for the doctor to get himself together. "I'm happy to report that all of the patients previously in quarantine with the Errella Virus have been cleared and released, and that we now only have four patients remaining in coma." Three were medically-induced and the fourth was naturally occurring. "I think we can look at waking one of them up soon." She handed that report across the desk to him.

Cole accepted the report, leaning back in his seat. His brow furrowed as he looked it over carefully, "Swelling's receding, blood pressure is stable.. Alright," he started inputting the instructions, "let's start lessening the anesthetic." He smiled, handing the datapad back to her and nearly sighed, "Thanks for all the good news, Amelia. It's certainly a great way to start the day."

His deputy chief chuckled ruefully at that. "After everything that has been going on, I suppose we are due for a few good days, eh, boss?"

"Yeah.." he nodded, "we can hope." After a moment, he drew in a long breath and blew it out through his nose, sitting up straighter in his seat and wanting to move forward. He turned his focus to her and staring at her thoughtfully, smiled. "You've been doing a great job, Amelia."

"Thank you, sir," she replied with a warm smile and a nod of acknowledgement. "I've been trying to keep up your high standard around here. We all have to work a little harder nowadays to make sure all the bases are covered. Even though it's pretty tiring at times." She didn't sleep at all the night of the banquet, for example.

Cole had thought keeping the staff busy would be good for them. But her last sentence had him wondering if he didn't have the whole picture, at least not with everyone. He angled his head at her, frowning inside, "Is there something you're not telling me, something I should know?"

Amelia blinked and shook her head. "No, sir," she replied, uncertain at what he was implying. "I just meant that with the whole ship being short-staffed, even us, it can all be a bit tiring at times to keep up with everything."

Oh shit.. Cole closed his eyes for a brief second, looking away, realizing right then that she had misunderstood him and he her. That was on him. "Amelia, what I meant was...are you okay?"

"Oh," Amelia said with a quiet laugh. "Yes, sir. I'm just fine."

His brow had furrowed and then he smiled, "I'm glad... Maybe we both need a little more sleep." while thinking to himself, And a vacation.

Amelia laughed again, flashing a smile. "Doctor's orders."
