The original design for Unity Station was drawn up by the Arrkun architect Zelor Fardan. It passed through rigorous study and peer review at the Arrkun College of Engineering before being brought before the planetary council. It was approved on 2419 and construction began in early 2420. After Federation membership was approved, Starfleet engineers joined the construction process to design additions to the station that would be constructed as colonists journeyed to Kiir and after their arrival in 2421. These additions were also approved by ACoE.

Some of these additions have included increases defensive and offensive capabilities as a result of the highly sought-after engine design produced by Sal'kiir and the competition regarding it.
