Madalene finally arrived on the bridge, as she hadn't found the chief helm officer in the shuttlebay. "Lieutenant!" Madalene called out, spotting the lieutenant. "I have been looking for you," she said as she walked down to the helm console. "We need some more of your shuttles to help save those people down on the planet."
Tye turned from her post at helm and had a slight smirk. "Well, I've been on the bridge since I'm on duty and this is my duty post." She wasn't sure who the junior officer was, so refrained from being too much of a smart ass. She tilted her head. "How many shuttles and what size?"
"As many as you can of the bigger shuttles. We'll need to have a heavy duty computer processing ability," Madalene said simply, looking at the helm officer.
Tye nodded slowly. "We're down to three large shuttles, and one of those is up for maintenance, so you've got two to work with. We've got four medium-sized shuttles that are available, and ten of the small shuttlepods."
"We'll need to everything minus the shuttle pods," Madalene said, not making it sound like an order but making sure she was clear they needed to do this.
"Well, you can have the two large shuttles and the four medium ones. The one that's just back on the ship...you'll have to check with engineering to see if it is ready to go back out," Tye replied.
Madalene just nodded, making note of that. "I'll get right on it."
Mallory walked out onto the bridge from her ready room, taking a quick survey around to see Sabine and Beryl in conversation. Well, that was positive...she hoped. She set a course for the two officers and given that the bridge wasn't all that large, she reached them quickly enough. "Report," she said. "How're we doing on the plan?"
"We were just discussing how many shuttles the lieutenant needed, and what size," Tye replied.
"The idea is simple: We'll have a few shuttles in the upper atmosphere and then a train of shuttles coming back to the Odin to help relay data to the Odin, allowing us to make a higher chance of successful beam-ups." Madalene said it like it was nothing.
To this, Mal arched a brow, but she could see how it would work. "Get it in motion, then," she said. "The sooner we get our people back, the sooner we can get the hell out of here." She looked at the helm officer. "Are we going to need pilots in these craft or can they be controlled remotely?"
The Chief Helm Officer furrowed her brows as she considered the question. "We can probably rig them to be controlled remotely, though I would be concerned about any delay in command relay from here to there. It might be safer to have pilots on board to avoid any potential relay delays or failures."
Mal nodded, although she felt a sinkhole open in her stomach with worry about what might happen to them...but her choices were slim to none now. The captain looked at Sabine. "How long until this is ready?"
"Six to nine hours," Madalene said, looking at the captain. "Myself and a team need to make sure the larger shuttles have the proper sensor suites and the sensors on all the shuttles are calibrated correctly," Madalene explained. "This can't be rushed, either. We don't want something to happen like last time."
"Get it going, Lieutenant."
=/\= Approximately Eight Hours Later... =/\=
=/\= T-Minus 10 Hours...
Captain Thorne sat in the center seat on the bridge, which looked vaguely less terrible than it had when all of this began but not by much... She tried to think of just how long it had been that they'd been here. Something over twenty-four hours, and she hadn't slept for any of it. She knew that much.
According to engineering and science, it would be another ten hours before they could attempt to slingshot themselves back home... That was about eleven hours too long, but it was better than nothing.
"Report," she ordered, feeling heavy--like the entire ship was sitting on top of her. "Are we ready to begin attempting transport?"
"The shuttles report ready, Captain," Beryl replied.
"Ready. Each shuttle will have two operations officers--one to monitor the sensors and the other for monitoring the transports and making any adjustments that need to be made, and then a pilot and co-pilot," Madalene said. "I'll be remaining on the Odin to continue to adjust the Odin's sensors and working with the transport teams here."
Mal nodded once. "Then begin. Start with all non-Terran bio-signatures and crew. Use every available transporter and put them in cargo bays one and two. Emergency evacuation procedures." She took a deep breath and blew it out. "Go as fast as you can. I don't know how much longer any of them have down there."
