Mission:
Deus ex Machina
Location: Bridge x Engineering
[Bridge]
The bridge was a lovely kind of silence, a silence that wasn't deafening, but a silence that was comforting, a silence that you knew that everyone was just getting work done.
Looking over some diagnostics to compare them to the ones that he ran, the idea is to give him a better idea of the efficiencies, and inefficiencies of the ship. "Mmm, hmm, mmm...," he muttered looking over the data, the old girl has some left in her. Clovis did really love the Nebula class, it was the true workhorse of the fleet, and with it being so adaptable it could be used for almost anything.
"Lieutenant I am here to relieve you," a fresh-faced-looking ensign said politely, as he took a quick glance at what the lieutenant was studying.
{Time already,} he thought as he quickly transferred the data to his PaDD as he would need it later to fill out his report, "of course ensign," he added grabbing his PaDD as he gave the ensign a nod before heading for the lift, and engineering, he needed to go meet this beast of an engineer.
[Engineering]
"Oh, sh...," Clovis said as he spotted the officer that the commander was speaking of, "....now what was his name," he muttered walking up to him, "excuse me?" Clovis said as he took in just the sheer size of this officer.
"Oh, hey Lieutenant," rumbled the deep, resonant basso profondo of the ship's resident Sirran, as he rose to his full height, offering a grin in greet. "What can I do for you?" he asked.
"She wasn't lying," Clovis said taking a second so his mind could comprehend the sheer size of this officer, "lieutenant Clovis Bray, I am Odin's new helm officer, and I would like to just meet you and your staff, something I do on all new assignments, as helm and engineering do work closely together," he said simply holding his hand out to shake his large, no huge paw.
"Who wasn't lying?" Odin's largest officer rumbled. A massive clawed paw extended in greet, dwarfing the human's hand completely. "Harva Taliborn. You can just call me Harva," he said with a pleasant smile and a light wag of his tail.
"Commander, commander someone, apologies names were never my strong suit, er I should names of people, names of maneuvers, I can memorize all day," Clovis said with an odd stoic/nervous chuckle.
"Commander someone, huh," Harva flicked an ear, chuckling softly. "Well, that narrows it down; not too many of those around on this ship. Probably Petrova, the ship's first officer. Since you're new on board and all. Though now I'm curious what she wasn't lying about."
"Yes, apologies I have never been great with names, or names of people," Clovis said, "...so yes, well your size," Clovis said almost a little too bluntly.
Harva chuckled, flashing an impressive set of razor-sharp fangs. "Yeah, I get that a lot. I'm a Sirran. Rather an average specimen at that. You don't see too many of us around, really - we tend to stick to our home world for the most part. Though my daughter is also on board."
"....oh, been a while since I have served on a vessel with a father-daughter duo, I am assuming separate departments?"
"Oh, no, she's civilian," Harva shook his head, his ears flopping around a bit, then shrugged. "She's - equivalent to a late teen or so, in human terms. Just about to pick a road in life, a forest to hunt."
Clovis realized that they had gotten far off track, but it was mostly to get off the topic of having someone close on board, "...so, um like I said I wanted to come and speak with you face to face, so we can start figuring one another out, as I believe it'll help us out in the long run, especially when it comes to us working in unison to keep this ship moving, especially in the heat of battle if and when we end up in that situation," he added.
"Well, what would you like to talk about?" Harva flicked an ear. "Got any hobbies? Do you sport?"
Clovis's eyes twinkled a little bit, "you ever watched shuttle racing?"
Harva's expression darkened a moment, almost imperceptibly so. "In fact, I have," he offered, putting two and two together. "You race?"
"When I get a chance, so pretty much during RnR, actually have a shuttle back at Earth, there is just something about going speeds faster than something like a shuttle should," his grin getting a bit bigger now.
"Tuning their power delivery to handle the increasing demand can also be fun, I have to admit," Harva chuckled. "But no, those times are behind me."
"Fair enough," Clovis said looking around, "...so how hard can the Odin be pushed?" Clovis said bringing it back to kind of what he was looking for when he came down here, get an idea of the limits of the Odin.
"As hard as you want," Harva smiled warmly. "There are plenty of safeguards in check that'll keep the ship intact while you try to race her. Just keep standard procedures and warp duration limits in mind and I won't have to start - recalibrating things." the massive Sirran grinned broadly.
"....how about impulse, and thrusters especially if we are in combat," Clovis asked.
"Same answer. Push them, safeguards will prevent things from being pushed too far. Though she's well maintained and will fly right, might even surprise you," Harva answered.
Clovis nodded, "good, good that is what I like to hear," he said speaking of both being surprised and that everything is well maintained. "Well I think I have been satisfied, and it was been a pleasure to meet you, and I look forwarded to working with you in the future," Clovis said holding his hand out to shake his large paw.
Harva's clawed paw completely dwarfed Clovis' hand, though his grip was surprisingly gentle. His grin a bit less so, perhaps. "Indeed," the large officer mused before turning back to his work.
