Deus ex Machina

Thex let out a slight yawn as she walked down the corridor. After another long shift fixing up the girl all she wanted was a long warm shower before slipping into something more comfortable before dancing the night away. Though at the moment she had a duty she'd been putting off to do.
Her medical checkup.
Things were at least calm and quiet enough that Amelia had been able to catch up on some rest, which was a good thing and needed after her own long, hard shifts repairing people and monitoring them afterward until they were able to head out on their own and un-crowd sickbay.
She happened to be walking through when the chief engineer came in. She glanced up from her PADD and smiled politely. "Hello, Commander. Come in for your checkup?"
" Sure thing doc Where do you need me." Thex said with the confidence of someone who had been through this many a times.
"Right over here," Amelia said, gesturing to a biobed toward the back where there'd be some privacy for them to talk. "Have a seat." She pulled out her tricorder and its probe. "How've you been feeling?"
" Tired been a long couple of days getting everything repaired and up to the standards," Thex said as she claimed onto the indicated biobed.
Amelia chuckled quietly. "It hasn't been much different for fixing up the organic half of the ship," she admitted. "But no issues or concerns?"
" Nothing I can think of doctor." Thex said cheerfully.
"Doctors are generally happy to hear that," Amelia said with an easy smile as she moved the probe around the Andorian engineer, from head to the foot and back up the other side. "You're looking pretty healthy as well. Your ankle injury healed well. I would recommend a slight increase in your caloric intake to help your metabolism after working so hard lately."
" Good to know. I twisted my ankle whilst dancing. At least I can stuff myself with doctor's permission. " Thex replied with a grin and a laugh.
Amelia chuckled. "Well, I didn't say you should go overboard," she said with amusement. "Just a slight increase."
" I won't doc. " Thex replied with a grin and a wink.
Closing the tricorder, Amelia put it away in the pocket of her lab-coat. "You're good to go, then," she said. "Do you have any questions for me?"
Thex was rather quite as she thought something through in her head. " Doctor can I ask you something rather personnel."
Amelia nodded, her expression sober but open. "Of course," she said. "What's on your mind, Commander?"
" Are you aware of my peoples population problems doctor?" Thex enquired.
"To an extent, yes," the doctor said with a nod. "It is something doctors in Starfleet are made aware of since we are likely to treat Andorian patients."
" Well..." Thex said feeling relived that the doctor knew what she was talking about. " I was wondering if it I could have some of my eggs extracted. "
Given the topical lead-in, the question wasn't much of a surprise. It was a procedure that she hadn't done very often, but she knew how. "We can do that," she assured the engineer. "You would need to take a hormonal supplement for about a month beforehand to stimulate a certain level of bodily production naturally. To do it faster can damage the biological material and since I presume there's no emergency here, we want to do it as naturally as possible. Increasing certain vitamin intakes can help as well to produce the healthiest possible result."
" That's great." Thex said with a small smile forming upon her face. " When would we start the treatment?"
"Whenever you like," Amelia said. "The outward effect of the treatment should be minimal and not affect your duties, though you'll need to inform me if you have any strong changes or reactions."
" Thank you, doctor. i'll look into it when i have some free time we can get started." she replied a smile on her blue face
Amelia nodded and returned the smile. "We'll be ready when you are," she said. "Don't forget the slight increase in your caloric intake in the meantime. Otherwise, you're free to go."
