Mission:
Tyr's Hand
Location: Science Lab
The first thing she realized was that she was lying on a hard surface. Her fingertips felt a smooth surface and her mind, fighting its way upwards through a hazy internal fog, reported man-made, non-fibrous so most likely the lab. She moved cautiously, testing for injuries, as something warm tricked down her cheek. Her right hand shook, adrenaline response, as she touched her temple. Blood. Probability of impact with a hard surface. She climbed to her feet, bracing herself on the edge of the work table, as her gaze skittered away with only a cursory observation of the blood (her blood on one corner.
Bridge. That's where the answers will be.
Goal in mind she set about the task of getting there. She staggered at first, feeling more sluggish than a minor head wound could account for, but a stubborn nature twinned with an obsessive need for answers won out over shaky legs and fuzzy mind. She thought about stopping to tidy her appearance for all of a nanosecond.
[Short While Later / USS Odin Bridge]
When the turbolift door opened onto the Bridge, Remy made her way, unsteadily but less so now, to the main Science station and sat down with less grace than usual. The fact that no one was at the station did not immediately break through her concentration. Ship sensors were marvelous things especially in the hands of someone who understood them, communed with them, as well as she did.
Earth but the constellations were in the wrong position for this time of year. In the northern hemisphere, Leo would be clearly visible and that meant spring. Frowning, Remy checked for chatter on the standard communication channels and found none. She set up a rotating frequency search and found a news report on the upcoming Charybdis launch.
Charybdis?
World frakkin' war 3? That can't be right. Can it?
Whispering curse words in fluent Risan, she did a computer search and sat back in stunned surprise as the information scrolled down her screen. Okay, could be misinformation ... right? So ... corroboration ... something there then but not now ... oh, I know. Her fingers, trembling now, danced across the console as she did a sweep of the planet's surface and found historic corroboration.
She looked to command, center of the bridge. "Current location," she whispered, her mouth gone dry, and coughed. She started again, trying for stronger. "Current location. Earth, Early Spring, 2037."
