Mission: The Quagmire

It was late evening by now, and there was still so much to do.

Mallory had spent hours since they suddenly found themselves home doing several things. First off, she was making sure all of her crew was here. They were. Unfortunately, some of their guests were with them. Now the handful of Union personnel made up the displaced group. Some were handling that better than others. Secondly, she was making sure that they were really sure this was the timeline just like they had remembered it. By all accounts, it was. It was as if the ship had never ended up in World War III at all. Thirdly, she'd been speaking with the brass...

As one might suspect, that had taken up the most time.

Finally, she was able to get back to her quarters. She had just unfastened her collar when there was a voice behind her.

"Good evening, Captain."

Mal let out a shriek unbefitting a captain of a Federation vessel and whirled around to see...the damn weird woman! Although that woman had seemingly sent them all home, so she should be nicer. There was something...different about her now, though, but Mal struggled to put a finger on it. "Hi," she said, sounding amazingly intelligent. "Uh. Thanks for getting us home?" She stared at the woman, trying to find out what was different. Same height and build, same old world clothing, same braided blonde hair and two-colored eyes...

The woman smiled, and that's when Mal saw it. A faint...flicker in her face. As if she was...a hologram?

"You're welcome," the woman said, tilting her head. "You saw it."

"I saw it."

"I am..." The woman looked down at herself, holding her hands out to the sides. "...part of your ship now, very literally. I thought something like this might happen. It takes a lot to send a ship through time and space to other realities, you know. It doesn't always go the way you expect."

Mal blinked. "If you say so." She had to sit down. Looking around, Mal located the nearest chair and dropped down. "You're part of the ship now," she repeated, but she was pretty sure she didn't believe it even as the words came out of her mouth and this woman stood right in front of her, flickering occasionally. It was too much to take in all at the same time, after everything that had already happened today and everything she'd had to deal with over the course of the rest of the day...

The woman shrugged. "I'm afraid this ship is stuck with me now, Captain. This is my new home." She smiled. "Call me Odin."
