Mission: The Quagmire

...the right arch led to a long, dark corridor just like all the others. At the end of it was another open doorway leading into a large room. Inside the large room, there was a long table with several chairs, although there was only one filled and that was the one at the very end.

In that chair sat a woman, human by all accounts, with long blonde hair pulled back in a ponytail. One eye was pure white and the other was a piercing blue. She smiled at them as they entered. "Welcome!"

Indi stepped forward. Perhaps she looked and smelled human, but there was something.. off. She squinted her eyes in an attempt to figure it out. "Where are we? Who are you?"

"You are in my home," the woman said with a flash of a brilliant smile, "and I am your host." She waved at the table in front of her. "Sit. Drink. Be comfortable." There were trays of food and jugs with rough-hewn cups beside them now. Had they been there before and just not seen, or had they just appeared?

Still having no intention to sit down, Indi glared at the woman. "That wasn't an answer that makes any sense to me," she spoke, while giving the signal to her officers to spread out and start investigating the room and its content.

The woman tilted her head curiously. "I thought it was a fairly straightforward sentence. Would you prefer a different language?"

The officers spread out.

One of them went over to the table. He didn't eat anything on it, but picked up the trays and the jugs in an attempt to figure out if they were more than that: food and drink.

Two of them went to the other side of the room, examining it for potential exits.

Indi kept an eye on them, while also getting fed up with this woman. "The host to what?" she finally asked, deciding she could perhaps go along with her for now.

"Host to you all," the woman said, gesturing expansively. If the security officers bothered her, she didn't show it. "You are my guests here. This is my home, so to speak. At the moment, at least, and it is where you are--"

Very abruptly, the woman's head tilted like an animal who'd just heard something. She held still, like she was listening, and then she smiled. Her attention turned back to those in front of her, and she smiled. Her eyes were glowing now, though. (Entirely unknown to this group, the same thing was happening to every group trapped in this strange place.) "Someone just said the magic word." She winked her pale eye, and everything went white.
