Jacky and her staff had done a pretty good job so far of working their way through meeting all of the crew, as her department needed to know everyone. It was better to meet them when a counseling session wasn't needed than when it was. A sort of baseline, as it were.
As the chief counselor, it was down to Jacky to meet the senior staff, which she had just about done. The chief helm officer, however, was still on her list. Which was why she had scheduled a casual meeting in her office today, and Lieutenant Beryl was due any moment now.
Pretty much right on time, the chime to the counselor's office rang, and Tye waited on the other side of the door until she heard a voice call for her to proceed. Stepping into the office, the Lieutenant offered a warm smile, "Lieutenant Commander Wallace-Shaw?"
"Yes," Jacky said, rising politely to her feet and walking up to offer her hand with a smile. 'Thank you for joining me, Lieutenant. Please, have a seat."
Tye gave a firm shake before taking the offered seat, "Of course, Commander, though. . . to be fair, when someone who is a higher rank asks me to meet them, I'm not one to say no." To this, she allowed a small smirk.
The counselor chuckled as she sat back down. Here, she never met people from behind her desk. The chairs were across from one another with open space between them. "Fair enough," she said. "I assure you that this meeting isn't meant to be any trouble. I am just meeting all the senior staff and you were next on my list."
The smirk turned to a slight smile, "Ah, I understand. I'm sure people aren't exactly thrilled at being called to the counselor's office, but I understand the need for the meet and greet."
"Sadly, if they are thrilled by that, it usually means a deeper issue," Jacky said with a wry but humorous smile. "So, Lieutenant, why don't you save me a long question and answer period and tell me about how you're settling in here on the ship.'
Tye gave a casual shrug and a wry smile, "I guess you could say I am settling in just fine. Aside from the rest of the helm department, I haven't really worked with anyone much. I have met one of the fighter pilots as we started talking while waiting to board the station for a bit of R&R." Her lips twitched in a slight smirk as she thought about Quinn, "I guess you could say he's my first friend aboard the Odin. Other than that? No complaints."
Being a trained counselor with a lot of experience, the expression was not missed...but she didn't comment. "Everything starts somewhere, right?" she said instead with warmth. "How does the Odin compare so far with your previous postings?"
Furrowing her brows as she considered the question, Tye replied, "The best I can say is comparable? It's a bit different with me being Chief and having to sort shifts and such."
Jacky nodded. "I can imagine that being chief now would be quite a change of pace."
The woman beamed, "Oh yeah, it really is, but so far, it's nothing I can't handle. The biggest change is deciding who leads each shift and who else serves on those shifts."
"Have you gotten to know your assistants much yet?" Jacky asked with a smile.
Offering another shrug, Tye replied, "Yeah I've gotten to know them a little. I've spent more time with the shift leads and I'm trying to get to know everyone as I can."
Jacky nodded. "It takes time," she said. "I'm still just getting to know my department, and I'm the counselor! Getting to know people is rather my department. Literally."
To this, Tye laughed softly, "So long as you enjoy it, I suppose?"
"We all have our callings, yes?" the counselor said easily. "I have long felt a desire to help people, and I was never good enough at organic chemistry to become a doctor." Jacky smiled, though inwardly, she couldn't help but think of her late husband. It was his death that led to her life in Starfleet, after all. "Are you happy in your chosen path?"
Tye smiled broadly, "Very. I've wanted to fly since I was a little one. I've gotten to live my dream."
