A Possibly Good Idea

Now that they were back on a mission the categorizing was well moved back to the back burner. Especially with the conditions down on the planet. The storms did look bad well actually continued to look bad. Which had her worried about the transporters.
Standing up she grabbed a PaDD that had some scans of the storms and headed for the transporter room. "Excuse um....uh excuse me I am looking for a transporter specialist?"
Pasgen's head popped out of an open panel next to the transporter chamber. "That would be me, oh yes, it would, officer. What can I do for you?"
"Ensign Cydwenn Sov, science officer." Cydwenn said simply. "....I am bit a worried about the away team, transporters and the raging storms down on the planet. So I guess what I am kinda getting at I would like to develop a plan for if we need to do an emergency beam out we can."
"Ahh, I understand," replied Pasgen, pulling hirself out of the workspace s/he'd been working in. "The away team were provided pattern enhancers. This I know as I was the one who packed them on the shuttle." As the Hermat approached the young Ba'Ku, s/he could smell her pheromones triggered by her concerns, and s/he knew her to be worried even if she hadn't told hir she was. "While we can try to do more, I would like to know first if you have something specific in mind." s/he smiled assuringly.
"Good good," Cydwenn said. "Truth be told something that can cut through that storm. So, if the shuttle can't take off we can still save them if they need it." Cydwenn said pulling out a PaDD from her pack.
"I know that operations and engineering are working on some plans for communications the main plan is potentially finding ways to amplify storms frequency to help boost the communication signal. I don't think we can do that but....," Cydwenn said leaving that hanging.
"Hmmm," Pasgen eyed the young officer curiously, wondering about her experience in away team scenarios. "All it takes is for them to activate at least one of the pattern enhancers," s/he reassured her, " and we'll receive its signal here." Pasgen had gestured to the transporter console, replacing the transporter tech standing there. "You may go now," S/he said to the tech, and now in thought turned back to Cydwenn. "While pattern enhancers are powerful sensors designed to aid transporter technology, they are powerful and adaptive communication equipment as well..."
Cydwenn nodded, "hmm, how so?" Cydwenn asked knowing that her knowledge did lack in this particular field.
"They define, scan, and relay information to the transporter systems. I am thinking there may be a way to modify a pattern enhancer's amplifier circuit into our communication system."
"Interesting," Cydwenn said as the information snuck in. "I mean it couldn't hurt to try. Would doing this take a transporter offline?"
"No, it would not," Pasgen smiled, sounding more upbeat than before. "It only requires taking apart a pattern enhancer," s/he lifted a finger, " A completely separate piece of equipment. We should now notify Chief Sabine, oh yes, we should."
"Yes, I think that would be a good idea. Probably should also alert Chief Dering. actually they may still be together."
"That would be perfect in timing," Pasgen's smile turned into a pointy tooth grin and tapped hir badge to do just that.
