...Cydwenn was granted access to visit the AI she didn't know much about artificial intelligence but she was a scientist and well she was gonna do what scientists did best which was study. {Crap...what did they say the AIs name was?} Cydwenn said giving the two guards a nod. Walking into the room she saw the body of the AI which as well big, "....um I am here to talk with the artificial intelligence...apologies I forgot what they say you call yourself."
As Cydwenn approached and addressed the derelict walker, the holographic avatar of a young woman flickered into existence. "Hello. I am Kat Walker, the AI onboard this machine," she motioned to the wreck behind her. "How may I help you?"
"...oh hi, err um I am ensign Cydwenn Sov a science officer aboard the Odin. I am a general scientist no expertise in artificial intelligence in fact I actually struggle with the concept but I am a scientist and the need for knowledge well...well it always seems to win out in the battle of um...well it doesn't matter." Cydwenn rambled, "...do you mind if I take some scans?"
Kat tilted her head, simply listening as Cydwenn rambled. Though at the question at the end she gave a nod and stepped aside, motioning to the derelict piece of machinery. "Please, by all means."
Cydwenn started the scan her tricorder sending data directly to her PaDD, "this is fascinating material." Cydwenn said looking over the data.
"I'm glad you think so," Kat smiled softly. "If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer. I have detailed files on my own construction."
"...impressive th these I have never even thought of combining these materials together. Who is your designer or should I ask your maker?" Cydwenn asked.
"I'm sorry but I'm afraid that's impossible. To my knowledge the people who designed me are dead, and it's possible I'm the only one of my kind still functioning. To a certain level." Kat replied.
"Oh...um right," Cydwenn said, "...hmm....um do you know the species of the people the designed and created you. I understand they are dead but well....I am a bit of a history buff."
"They were the Drul Anu, and they were from this region. I do not know if you would know of them." Kat spoke, stepping aside, letting another hologram shimmer into existence. This one a reptilian humanoid wearing a flight suit, with relatively long, slender limbs and yellow, slitted eyes.
"Mmm...interesting we have a similar species or I should say a few like that. So...this whole race is gone, deceased?" Cydwenn asked.
"As I understand it, yes," the reptilian hologram flickered and vanished. "Their sun was in the stages of going supernova and their planet became uninhabitable."
"Oh! Yes that'll do it...," Cydwenn said nodding making a note to look up these species when they got more access to this universes LCARs or whatever they used for their databases. "....so I know that you were programmed to help. What other functions did they program you for?"
"I am a universal AI, primarily designed to operate a small to medium sized vehicle, be it civilian or military," Kat explained. "I am a learning unit, capable of self improvement and self reprogramming, based on experience. I have a full personality suite installed."
Cydwenn nodded, "these Drul Anu are they miners, umm traders?" Cydwenn said trying to picture the AI controlling crafts trying to figure out these people, "...when you say you are designed to operate small to medium craft do you connect to them?"
"I do not know anything more about the Drul Anu, I apologize," Kat tilted her head a bit, answering Cydwenn. Her voice still matter-of-fact. "Typically my AI core is semi permanently installed and connected to the vehicle to operate. Typically these vehicles are purpose designed to house the Evo 3 crystalline AI core, though existing vehicles of sufficient technology level can be adapted with time and effort."
Cydwenn nodded, "...makes sense. What kind of vessels or vehicles were you commonly operating?"
"My current vehicle, or what remains of it, is an urban pacification scout walker," Kat explained, as a quarter scale hologram of an intact walker shimmered into view. "It is a light combat unit with basic shielding, anti personnel and light anti materiel weaponry."
"...so protection interesting. Explains the materials and they are put together." Cydwenn said walking over to the terminal to get better look at her scans. "...so when you were in these scout walkers you could carry people they just need anyone to drive or fly?"
"The walker offered space for one pilot and could be operated by pilot or AI," Kat explained. The cockpit canopy on the projection of the walker hinged open to demonstrate, showing a cockpit inside. "When pilot operated the AI would assist in the operation of secondary systems, threat assessment, communication and similar functions."
"Interesting and makes sense," Cydwenn said looking up from the terminal. "...well I have to say the Drul Anu are very er....were very impressive the skill and efficiency of your systems is well impressive. Were they known for their expertise in computer science or AI technology?"
"From what I understand they were known for their AI technology, yes," Kat agreed. Truth be told she'd only had one source and even then, wasn't told much.
"....intersting I am gonna need to do some cross-referencing with the information you have provided with our history of artificial intelligence." Cydwenn said moving some the data and voice files that she created to a tablet. "Well it was very nice and interesting meeting you. I am sure I'll be back for some more information but....well you have a good rest of your day." Cydwenn said with a nod before turning and heading for the exit.
"Thank you," Kat spokequietly, watching Cydwenn leave. Her expression fell slightly as she did, before the hologram flickered and faded.
