Madalene finally made it down to science she kew that her first stop should have been to her transporter chief but right now figuring out what the device was seemed more important. "Oh...hello um....I think we met at the banquet." Cydwenn said blushing a little, "...well it was more of you bumping into me than a meeting."
Madalene didn't have time for this, "sure, yeah if that was what happened it happened," Madalene said pulling the faraday cage out of her bag. "I need help figuring out what this is. My guess is it's some kind of mini-EMP but I can't be sure." Madalene said placing the box down on the table.
Cydwenn looked at the box and back to the officer, "oh...okay um a mini-EMP you say. Um how mini is mini?"
"Well," Madalene said glaring at the ensign, "...seeing as we were both at the festivities and that the ship only reported having the blackout in the banquet hall so you tell me how mini it is." Madalene sniped, "...shit sorry. Under a lot of stress." Cydwenn wasn't used to being demeaned or whatever this was.
"It it is okay. Um I think we all are," Cydwenn said her eyes flicking back to the box. "Okay you are right it is most likely a isolated device unless it failed." Cydwenn added talking more to herself than to the chief operations officer, "...um the tests I need to run well most likely take the day. Are you okay with leaving this here with me?"
"Sure," Madalene said pulling out a PaDD, "if you can just put your thumb here. Just keeping track of the chain of evidence." Cydwenn just nodded she never took any classes in the whole forensic side of things than again that seemed more civilian then fleet. "Alright I'll send you anything as it comes in."
"Thank you," Madalene said tapping the box. "Right, I need to get going I'll be down in the transporter room." Madalene said It didn't take long to get to the transporter room. The conversation was a short one seeing as transporter tech just wasn't the same here as it was in their timeline. Madalene was just hitting dead ends after dead ends with those tasks done she headed back down to cargo bay 2 seeing as she did have a puzzle she needed help with.
"Kat Kat?" Madalene asked as she removed her backpack and set it on a small table.
The avatar flickered into existence, with a soft smile. "Just once will suffice. Hello Madalene. What can I do for you?" Her voice was ever polite and calm, with a slight melodic quality to it.
"I do have something you can help me with. I am struggling with seeing the bigger picture for increasing efficiency for the power grid. I was working on this prior to the blackout and death of one of the envoy. If you wouldn't mind seeing where I am or what I am not seeing." Madalene said.
"I don't know much about this ship's systems and technology, but I can take a look at what you have, if I want." Kat offered, stepping closer.
"That's okay I can walk you through it. I need someone like you who can process information faster than well I can faster than most of us can." Madalene said with a smile as she pulled out her tablet as she hooked it up to the monitor and pulled up the diagrams and specifications.
"Can you move the readout more this way, Madalene?" Kat asked, motioning to a spot on the floor nearby, right in front of the derelict hull of her walker, right in front of the sensor cluster. "I can better read it if it's centered in my sensor envelope."
"Of course," Madalene said moving the screen, "better."
"Yes, thank you." Kat smiled. The sensor cluster focused on the screen, and a soft hum started from the derelict hull of the walker, a cooling system spooling up as she dedicated all available threads to reading the schematic.
Madalene tapped a few more buttons. "So when I run the diagnostics. These here," she said lighting up areas, "...they work just fine. These darkened areas is well where I am having problem. If I initiate my steps to increase power and/or to make them more efficient we'll get blackouts."
"Analyzing traces ... What do these symbols mean?" Kat pointed to various opto-electrical components.
"So these are the optical data-network lines along with their nodes um....this is how data is retrieved and moved throughout the ship. These are the EPS lines, conduits and nodes um...these provide power to the ship by diverting some of the matter and anti-matter from the warp core." Madalene said. "...so I think what's happening is that the optical data-network is misreading something and sending too much matter/anti-matter to the EPS conduits and nodes. I just don't know where that is happening."
"Analyzing ... Running simulations ... " The hum of the coolant system became a little bit more audible as she pushed her core to 100% use on all threads. "It seems there's a hangup here, or here. Maybe here." she spoke after a few moments, pointing out three locations which lit up but were near the darkened spaces. "Though from your schematics there shouldn't be. The path is clear, but the signal isn't being read correctly. The output does not correspond with the inputs."
Madalene nodded as she pulled some diagnostics up, "...hmm interesting I am gonna need to go down in person to take a look at them. Thank you this was huge I would still be staring at this months from now."
Kat smiled softly. "Was I helpful, Madalene?" she asked, the language still being a bit new to her and not quite following what the Lieutenant had said.
"Yes extremely helpful...I have a starting point finally. Um well I should say a starting point for moving forwarded." Madalene said with a smirk. "So how is everything else going. Are more people stopping by and seeing what you are and that you could be very useful to this crew?"
"I helped the Captain with something earlier. She said I'd been very helpful." Kat explained. "Other than that, not really."
Madalene nodded, "hmm...well I'll try and stop in after my shifts as often as I can. Maybe after all of this murder and who-donit is over I'll approach the captain again for the rebuilding of your body."
"I have been thinking about that, Madalene, and I do not think that would be very helpful to my purposes." The soft hum of the cooling system faded away again, the system back at idle. "I am not part of your military, therefore I do not think the Captain would allow me weapons. Plus, whether I am armed or not, I do not thing an urban pacification walker fits within your military doctrine. Therefore even if my body was rebuilt, I do not believe it would help me be useful to this crew."
"What do you want? Has anyone asked you that?" Madalene asked.
"Other than you, no." Kat replied as she looked down, her voice quiet. "What I want - what my personality core directs me to pursue - is to be helpful, to be kind and to learn. So far I have tried to be kind, I have been helpful to you and the Captain, and I have tried to learn about your people and what they stand for. But it is not easy. I have no access to any records or libraries."
Madalene nodded, "...what if that's our goal. Forget about the body what if we can build you a holo-emitter which has been done allowing you to move freely even off ship as long as the holo-emitter is operational?"
"Lag would be an issue as long as my central program runs on a local core, and considering the complexity of the program I do not believe it can be made to run on a portable core with existing technology." Kat explained. "My roaming emitter is rudimentary and could be ugpraded in function, but not range. I am sorry."
"No no no it's not your fault....I am just struggling on learning the limitations of what we can do for you." Madalene said, "....and will learning about limitations in general to be honest."
"Alright." Kat said. "Was there anything else I can do for you, Madalene?"
"No no what you did was amazing and thank you again." Madalene said with a smile.
"Alright." Kat smiled. "Until next time, Madalene." She would wait for the Lieutenant to turn to leave before deactivating the avatar.
And with that Madalene packed up her belongings and headed out of the cargo bay.
