I've just been assessing the current Security staff we have, and I must say, in my own opinion, their level of fitness, alert and readiness falls woefully short of what's expected of a Security Officer.

When we ran a weapons drill, the accuracy of target acquirement was plausible, but tactical assessment by most was average, nobody had anything in them that made them stand out from the rest. I can't deny it, they passed the drill...just, but only because in the end, they carried out the orders I'd given them.

Timing was abysmal, I could have used a sundial on some individuals, that's something that'll have to be improved big time, otherwise there could be fatalities. 'If' the CO comes through and manages to get Lt Karadis here as Assistant Chief of Security, I'll have her drill them up and down till she has them fit and able. She'll be tough but fair at the same time, route out any who're not capable of the new standards that's expected in Security now.

If that's done, I can then start teaching them tactical analysis, awareness and execution. I have a few holodeck programme simulations I'll run, and they'll be surprised and shocked, but in the end it'll improve them as Security Officers, get their fitness levels up, improve them as tacticians, and make then handier weaponry and ordinance experts.

What I've said may sound harsh as a first assessment, but this is the department that's meant to protect the ship and crew, so it's my job to see the staff I have are fit and able to do that.
