Timeline: Just After "What Now...?"
Having been dismissed by Commander Petrova, Aleina went in search of Lieutenant Sabine. According to the ship's records, she was the Chief Science Officer, so it seemed reasonable that she would be found in the Science Labs. And so it was there that she made her way. Once arrived, she stopped just inside the room, letting her gaze sweep the room, taking in everything in a moment, in search of the lieutenant she sought.
“Thank you ensign Sov, I’ll make sure to go visit those labs and take a look at the progress on those projects,” Madalene said after the ensign gave her another breakdown of the projects and also making sure she was getting enough time to work on hers as well.
“You are welcome lieutenant, also it appears we have a visitor,” Cydwenn said looking at the chief science officer’s windows, “I’ll go check on a few things,” and with that, the ensign scurried off leaving Madalene to greet the newcomer.
“Hello, may I help you?” Madalene asked sounding a little bit tired but still pleasant.
Aleina watched the ensign scurry away and thought the woman's manner reminded her of junior officers on Command Carriers. Especially when certain captains were present. Thankfully, her Carrier had been free of such officers, one in particular, for some time.
Her Carrier. The words sounded hollow and tasted bitter at the moment. She pushed all of that aside as she had been taught to do, focusing on the current situation and the officer before her. "You are Lieutenant Sabine, correct?" she asked to be certain before going into any details of what had brought her here.
“Yes, I am her, how can I be of assistance?” Madalene said noticing the women’s demeanor. It was very, {hmm,} what was it she thought.
Aleina moved closer, stopping by one of the chairs in the office. "Commander Petrova said that I should speak to you about things like wormholes, gateways, doorways, etc.," she began. "Going through one that resembled a Curtain of White energy in space was how I became stranded in the Terran Union, and looking for another way to return home is why I joined their fleet... and, ultimately, why I stayed. She said that you would either know about such things or would send any information I gave you to Starfleet Sciences. Or both." She paused, giving the other woman a chance to process what she had already said.
Madalene was taken back a little, not many people were interested in wormholes especially for well that kind of travel. "Intriguing, I mean well, apparently it did work," Madalene rumbled on as her mind-gears turned as the sheer magnitude of the mathematics was well that. "Do you have any scans of this Curtain of White energy?"
Aleina frowned. "One, it only partially worked in that I got to the other side, but it frelled up my Prowler on the way through." Her tone on that last held a bit of a growl, but it wasn't meant for the woman before her. She took a second to clear her thoughts, then continued. "Which leads me to two. No, I don't have any scans as those would have been taken by the Prowler which, as I mentioned, was non-functional once through the Gateway," she informed. Her tone had once more returned to the calm tone she had used, to begin with.
Madalene nodded thinking through some steps, "is your Prowler still onboard?" Madalene said her brain making the next steps that they would need to make.
Aleina frowned. Maybe the woman had been so engrossed with the science that she hadn't fully heard what Aleina had said, so she repeated it after a fashion, or at least the relevant part. "The Prowler was unsalvageable when it crashed in Terran Union space," she clarified. "And even if it had been here, which it isn't, its systems were inoperable." Or was the other suggesting that she could coax the systems to somehow cough up the data even in that 'dead' state? Well, whatever she was suggesting, it really didn't matter since the ship had been dismantled somewhere near a year ago.
"Apologies for the misunderstanding, my hope was to actually scan the hull of your Prowler if it was here, get any scans of residue or anything," Madalene said, "...alright I'll need to take a few days and do a deep dive into Starfleet's databases and see what I can find," Madalene added as she worked on finding another way to get the information this woman was looking for.
Aleina nodded. "Commander Petrova said that might be the outcome of this," she confirmed, "so I expected not to get immediate results." Besides, it had taken this long, what was a few more days. Scorpius had taught her patience among other lessons. "I'm sorry I couldn't give you more helpful information. I mean, I saw the readings we took from the Command Carrier, but they didn't make much sense to me. Scorpius said they meant that it was likely a kind of Gateway or Doorway or such, but it wasn't anything he'd ever seen before either. I could try to input them for you... what I remember of them now." It was so long ago that some of the information was lost now, but she could at least offer to give what she did have.
Madalene quickly pulled a new PaDD out, "can you recall what you said and get it onto this PaDD?" Madalene said realizing she needed anything and everything to help narrow the search, as she handed her the PaDD.
Aleina took the device and frowned at it for a moment as she went back in her mind to that moment on the bridge of her Command Carrier. After a moment of staring at it, she began to type into it, entering all the information she could remember, even if she didn't really understand it; she didn't need to. When she had finished, she handed the PADD back to Lieutenant Sabine. "That's all I can remember. I hope it makes more sense to you than it does to me."
"No this is a great help, it'll give me a jumping-off point," Madalene said taking the PaDD and looking it over, "I'll give you a call once I find something," Madalene added with a small smile.
Aleina gave a small smile in return. It was more than she'd had up to this point, and she was grateful for it. "Thank you. I will leave you to your work then." She gave a respectful nod of the head and turned to leave.
"Oh, and if you think of anything else please do not hesitate to come and find me," Madalene called out looking back at the PaDD deciding the best place to go was stellar cartography and ensign Sov.
