Gathering Thoughts in a New Setting

Walking into the science section Madalene was welcomed by a bright, yet warm white light emitting from a large circular table, that had workstations all around it.

"Ah lieutenant, welcome to science," Cydwenn said simply with a polite smile on her face, as she greeted her new chief. The Ba'Ku women ushered her in, "if you would like I can give you a quick tour?" Cydwenn said keeping her simple, soft polite smile nodding a fellow science mate that walked by.

"I think that would be a good idea ensign," Madalene said returning the polite smile, knowing that there was gonna be a small period of "egg shell" walking as everyone got used to the new department head and vice versa. Not only a new department head, but one that also helped the "possessed" crew hunt down the unpossessed crew.

"Excellent," Cydwenn said with just a slight nervousness in her voice, "so this is the open work area, also were we hold most of our department meetings, as you can see the table makes it extremely easy," Cydwenn said allowing Madalene time to walk around the table, "now the main corridor out of the open work area leads to the labs," Cydwenn pointed, "and finally the only other corridor leads, to your office, the assistant chief, a smaller conference room and smaller offices," Cydwenn said concluding the quick tour.

"An impressive space," Madalene said stepping away from the circular table and heading for the corridor that would lead to her office. Pressing her palm against it the door slid open.

The office simple, a desk, a small couch under a window with a coffee table and several shelves. Walking into the office Madalene, "please come in and take a seat," Madalene said as she ran her fingers over her new desk knowing that a quartermaster mate would be arriving with her stuff shortly.

"Thank you ma'am," Cydwenn said taking a seat but remaining silent allowing the lieutenant to get used to her new surroundings.

Madalene drummed her fingers on the desk, before briefly stopping, and then starting up again like she didn't know where to begin, which was frustrating, "apologies, I am still gathering my thoughts, first off the list fo projects and where they are has been extremely helpful," Madalene said tapping a few buttons and pulling it up.

"No need to apologize, the upside of science is we are self-sufficient, the need for a department head is to make sure the scientific method is being upheld and respected, which includes reigning us crazy scientists," Cydwenn said with a chuckle.

Madalene had to give the young ensign a grin, "....so I did take a look at her file, your expertise is stellar cartography, but it seems like you have been doing mostly administrative work, which I do appreciate especially now, but I would like to get you back into science mode," Madalene said giving her a smirk.

Cydwenn smiled, "I would really like that, with the last chief coming in late, I just felt like someone needed to step up and help her," Cydwenn said trying not sound like she was fishing for a complement or that no one else was willing to step up.

"Well, I am glad that you did, and that has made my job all that easier coming in, and allowing you to get back to what you do best," Madalene said giving Cydwenn a smile. "....I want to start mapping where we have been and comparing it to our star charts, I want to see if we can kinda see what's the same if anything," Madalene said.

Cydwenn nodded, seeing where her thought process was going, "umm, yeahI can start on that, it also can't hurt to also start drawing up new star charts," Cydwenn added.

"Good, good and if you need anything don't hesitate to come and find me," Madalene smiled when she said this, letting Cydwenn know that the meeting was over, "....oh my door is always open," she quickly added as she watched the young Ba'Ku women leave her office.
