Madalene couldn't spend anymore in time in her small office and well the bridge wasn't a option at least not until her shift. She did a quick change in her office into her workout outfit before leaving and heading to the gym. Looking around the gym Madalene was glad that it was quiet it gave her a chance to stretch before really getting into it. She figured some nice stretching, free weights and maybe the bag and of course the cool down.

Talrian made his way to the onboard gym intending to get in some weights before running the decks. His side was feeling better after Kawolski's visit and he'd put off his workout long enough. Usually this early, the gym would be empty - unless he were in an area with Marines. But, as he entered, he noticed the dimunitive figure of the engineer. Still, it was a big space and he figured they'd be able to keep out of each other's way. Afterall, he didn't intend to do much in the way of cardio in the gym.

Finishing up her stretches she moved over to the free weights watching herself in the mirror. Until she joined Starfleet her gym was the cargo bay of the freighter she was born on. Lifting and moving cargo was her workout. After a few minuets she had built up a good sweat and was getting into the grove of working out.

"Excuse me," Talrian said to the engineer as he moved to get a set of dumbbells, dropping weight for a shoulder workout, a switch from doing some chest work. It would be a lot easier of some people spent more time working out and less time admiring their own form in the mirror. But, he decided she could use some slack, after all, it was only a few days ago she had a department head and less responsibility. He remembered her behavior on the bridge when they finally found the CEO's body.

Recognizing the man Madalene kept her mouth closed. Her first meeting she was extremely stressed and then just found her direct superior dead floating in space and she broke down and abandoned her station. Then of course everything that she heard what went down between the two of them before her death. "Of course." She said simply as she step aside and continued her reps. Using the mirror to make sure her form was good. She wasn't going after big muscle tone just strength conditioning,

"I don't think I have yet offered my congratulations," Talrian said, grabbing the weights. "On your promotion."

Putting the weights back before turning and facing the man. You could see the sweat stains on her tank. Taking in some breaths before speaking. "Thanks," but there was a coldness and bitterness to her tone. "And I am sorry for the loss you have suffered when you were stuck on the new Earth."

Talrian took a moment as he considered her use of the term 'new Earth'. It was, after all, an old earth. By all accounts it could be considered an 'ancient' Earth considering it's age and destruction. But, mentally shrugging, he began his own set, a series of movements hitting all three heads of the shoulder. "I didn't lose anyone on the mission," he stated. "Losses in security came from the original incident." It was matter of fact. "And I didn't know them enough to suffer their 'loss'."

"I really didn't know the former chief of operations but I am taking her loss hard." Madalene said not sure why that statement of his was getting her all worked up but it did. Shaking her head, "...." She was gonna say something but stopped as she started wrapping her hands to do some work on the bag.

"Why?" Talrian asked as he finished his set. "Do you feel unprepared for your new duties?"

Giving one big punch to the bag she stopped and turned and looked at the man. "This has nothing to do with my abilities or unprepared it's about dealing with the loss of a crew member." Talee said shaking her head, "....it's a Human thing to feel loss for people you don't even know or know all that well."

"Bullshit," Talrian said, shaking his head as he set up for his next set.

"What is your fucking problem!" Talee said taking several steps and getting into his face.

"Listening to the lamentations and rending of clothes over what happened," Talrian said, pushing her back out of his personal space. "Everybody going around thinking they're so grand for how much they're 'grieving' over the lost crew. Yet, very few people actually had deep ties with anyone that died. It's...annoying..." he said, shaking his head and trying to resume his set.

"So! That doesn't mean that we are allowed to grieve. And the fact that you can't even understand or even grasp that idea is....well sad." Madalene said shaking her head as she turned and moved to go grab her bag. He wasn't worth her time. "...I am terrified for our crew with you as our chief of security."

"Yes, I can see where you'd have a problem with someone being authentic and rational," he said shaking his head. What did he expect from Fleeters? "I didn't know the former Engineer all that well. My brief interaction with her I found her barely competent at her job, a hothead and uselessly arrogant that her wishes were paramount. But at least she had convictions she stuck to and, in the end, gave her life to save the crew. For that, I respect her. Enough to make sure that she was brought home and not left behind. Even if I'm not 'taking her loss hard'. But I guess that makes me somehow a monster, that I'm honest enough to say I'm not grieving over those I didn't know very well." He set the weights down as he finished that particular shoulder set. He had another on his routine, but it required a full bar, not dumbbells. And he could superset it with a squat or lunge.

"She wasn't a a god damn engineer," Madalene said not sure why that pissed her off but it did. "Yes she was a hothead but that was passion - passion to keep this crew safe. And from my understanding your unwillingness to slow-down didn't help matters." Madalene said looking at the man, "....she wasn't fucking arrogant she knew what she was talking about and it wasn't her wishes she was looking out for everyone going on those away missions."

Talrian shrugged again as he loaded the bar on the squat rack. "You weren't there but it seems you will let rumors dictate what actually happened. Especially for someone that you didn't know very well. Tell me, is it just your dislike of me or your own shame that makes you put her on a pedestal?"

"....no it's my history and training that tells me that you rushed the fucking mission and put us all in danger." Madalene said as she remembered back to some of the rush jobs on the freighter and that the idea of making a quick credit was more important than keeping the crew safe.

"Yes," Talrian said, completely devoid of emotion, "it was pretty nerve wracking for you, being completely safe up here on the ship while others of us were being shot down on Earth...or working to improve our lot so our successor can just leave the bridge without giving a damn if we got to come home or not. Must have been just..." he shook his head as he lifted the bar onto his shoulders, "...well, as I said 'nerve wracking'. I mean, you couldn't order from the replicators for hours! I understand your total hardships."

Madalene knew this would most likely get her thrown into the brig, potential demotion, forced counseling sessions and god knows what else but....but she had no control at this point. "Fuck you!" She said harshly as she flipped him off before storming off hoping that the shock would give her enough time to get out of the gym.

"Not ever going to happen, Lieutenant," Bran chuckled as he watched her storm out of the room. He continued with his set, glad they were alone. Otherwise he'd have little choice but to do something about her actions. But, among equals, he intended to shrug but he still had the heavy bar on his shoulders. But, no matter what she thought, he got exactly what he thought he'd get out of her. If she were even a quarter as smart as she thinks she is, she'll come to realize it as well. But, considering her vulgarity and lack of discipline, he doubted it.

Perhaps he should warn Rahl? Then, almost immediately, he disregarded that idea. She deserved what Sabine would bring her as well. Her crack about how he slept still upset him. And, on the positive side, he had the gym to himself now.
