LCARs. Isolinear optical chips. The job was tedious but a job that needed to be done. Rubbing her eyes, Madalene sighed, feeling like she was becoming cross-eyed as lines and lines of code streamed down the screen. Luckily, the computer did most of the work. So far, most of the isolinear optical chips were in working order, which was a huge miracle.
The computer beeped and bleeped, letting her know that things were happening. Madalene took another large gulp of coffee before looking back at the screen. Everything was looking okay, but there was a lot of data to go through. Just then, the doors to the core opened up. "Ensign, please tell me you have some good news," Madalene said, spinning around in the chair to face the female Benzite.
...but Madalene was caught off-guard when she finally stopped the chair. "Oh, uh... Captain," Madalene said, quickly standing and coming to attention.
Mallory smiled slightly and waved a hand. "At ease, Lieutenant," she said. "I'm afraid I am neither ensign nor the bearer of good news, although there's the consolation that neither am I the bearer of bad news, at present. I simply came down to see how things were going, and how you were doing."
Madalene turned back to her multiple screens. "Mostly diagnostics. We are actually in better shape then I thought. Most of the isolinear optical chips are actually in good shape. There's some that do need replacing. As for our LCARs system, it's, well, unfortunately for where we are, it's pretty damn useless until we can sync it up with their LCARs without allowing ours to sync with theirs."
"I don't know if I see that happening any time soon," Mal said thoughtfully. In all honesty, there were some things she couldn't blame the union for. They had their security to think about as much as she had her own and her ship's. "And how is the chief of operations doing?" She smiled wryly.
"I am dealing, like most of the crew," Maddy said, looking anywhere but the captain's eyes--not wanting the captain to see how exhausted she was. Ever since finding the former chief operations officer, she'd been having trouble sleeping. "We as the crew should be asking how is the captain doing?" Maddy said with a small smile.
Mallory smirked slightly. "I am dealing," she said, echoing the other woman's words. "Not having had anyone shoot at us for a few days or fall into any more time traps has helped."
This was true. Not being shot at was nice, and it allowed them a breather to figure out their next move. For Maddy, that was the LCARs. And also making sure their optical data-network was working at peak efficiency seeing as they would need that, especially for sensors. "By end of shift today, I should have all the isolinear optical chips working and working at peak efficiency."
The captain nodded approvingly. "I'm glad to hear that things are coming along, Lieutenant. The sooner the ship and crew at back to their best, the better."
"Thank you," Madelene said, knowing she was right. She hoped it was an easy change but seeing how interaction with the chief of security went, she was doubting that this was gonna be fast getting everyone positive and moving forwarded. "Now that I've got this out of the way, is there anything that we, as the crew, can do to help you?"
"Just keep doing your job," Mal said with a faint smile. "I know we're...understaffed now and all have to work harder, but do your best at the job and to take care of the ops department."
"Of course, ma'am," Maddy said with small nod and a small smirk, just as the computer beeped, "Welp, I probably should get back to work."
Mallory nodded, inclining her head slightly in acknowledgement. "Of course, Lieutenant. Good luck with it all," she said, turning and heading back out to see what other senior staff she needed to bother that day.
